The Inner Goddess

The race of virility, the race of proving ‘maleness’ (among males) based on primeval parameters has been a prominent feature of this heteronormative society since ages. Knowingly or unknowingly all men run this race; after all finding a leader of the ‘pack’ based on physical strength (virility in some way) is particularly common in most primates, our ancestors. In this era of intellectual advancement, deliberate neutralization of gender specification, perhaps this is not the exact sort of competition we would expect. However the fact remains: this is something so innate that it’s permanent; at least for the next thousands of years to come until our chaotic inner monkey is completely transformed to a book reading, intelligent, civilized creature. In other words there’s no escaping from this futile race of gender stereotypes unless we humans evolve in an even more intellectually superior specie.

This race can be very exhausting; it can be very difficult and at times can be as disappointing as killing your true self for validation from the society (the ultimate reward of this race).

When this competition suffocates each of our individual beings, perhaps we should break free. Perhaps we men, in seeking refuge to the other soul within, the primordial feminine within, can be healed. The feminine within teaches to be as swift as a river; as determined to break free and liberate. The Goddess within each man teaches to rise and live and let live; somewhere She’s the earth shattering sound of life announcing rebellion against all barriers. And then it’s Her again who teaches us to unfurl our true selves and fly ‘as we are’.

Perhaps we shall appeal to the feminine within in the contemporary times when we confuse toxic masculinity with being a man.

“…Pavagadh Ma Dungarvali,

Mahakali Thara Danka Vaage…”

Few lines in the praise of the Indian version of the primordial feminine depicting the sound of Her war cry; written in old Gujarati.
